Mummy has found some very beautiful poems, lyrics, quotes, scriptures, and stories online - These words very much describe the tremolo and emotions surrounding the loss of a baby. Many of these have been adapted for Thomas.

We will share these here in remembrance of you and of all the other 'Little ones' who pass on before their time.

(Many of the poems I found online have no signature - many are signed 'Author Unknown'. If there are any words or poems here that belong to you and you are offended by my use of them here, firstly I apologise and secondly - please let me know so that I can credit your work to you.)

There is a place that we call Memory -
A province by itself which, though unseen, is home and haven to the heart -
And there, in peace and beauty, waiting, are those with whom we shared our yesterdays.

' Sorrow ( My Lost Child ) '

18 1/2" x 26"
Acrylic On Canvas

Victoria Dixon

This was painted when I returned home from hospital.
It is not yet completed, I will include the completed painting here on the
site when I can.

The following poem was read out at Thomas's service.

For

Thomas

In a baby castle just beyond our eye
our baby plays with angel toys that money cannot buy
who are we to wish you back into this world of strife?
No Thomas, play on baby You have eternal life

At night when all is silent
And sleep forsakes our eyes
We hear your tiny breathing
As you lie by our side
Your little hands caress us
So tenderly and sweet
We'll whisper a prayer and close our eyes
And embrace you in our sleep.

(c) Doris Stokes

(Note: The above poem was slightly adapted for Thomas. I hope that the author is in no way offended by this.)

Little Snowdrop

The world may never notice
If a Snowdrop doesn't bloom,
Or even pause to wonder
If the petals fall too soon.
But every life that ever forms,
Or ever comes to be,
Touches the world in some small way
For all eternity.

The little one we long for
Was swiftly here and gone.
But the love that was then planted
Is a light that still shines on.
And though our arms are empty,
Our hearts know what to do.
Every beating of our hearts
Says that we love you.

- Author Unknown -

(We are planting Snowdrops on Thomas's grave so they hold great significance for us as they should bloom around the time he was due.)

A Father's Grief

It must be very difficult
To be a man in grief,
Since "men don't cry"
and "men are strong"
No tears can bring relief.

It must be very difficult
To stand up to the test,
And field the calls and visitors
So she can get some rest.

They always ask if she's all right
And what she's going through.
But seldom take his hand and ask,
"My friend, but how are you?"

He hears her crying in the night
And thinks his heart will break.
He dries her tears and comforts her,
But "stays strong" for her sake.

It must be very difficult
To start each day anew.
And try to be so very brave-
He lost his baby too.

Clear like a raindrop, fresh and pure
Warm as a ray shone from the sun
Lost like a seashell on the shore
Small like a number in a sum

Perfect like a petal on a flower
Shiny as a glint upon the snow
Fast like a minute in an hour
Cold as the breeze in winds that blow

Cute as a freckle on a face
Light like a beam down from the moon
Delicate as a pattern stitched in lace
Sadness in a memory gone too soon

Tiny as a speckle in the sand
Pure like a reflection on a lake
Identity in the lines upon a hand
Innocent as the goodness in a sake

Fresh as the bud that's born to bloom
Lonely as a note without a song
Sorrow for our babe that's gone too soon
Forever your memory will shine on

I am going to tell you something
I hope you'll never know.
I'll tell you how a heart can break
and tears can constant flow.

I lost my baby boy, you see.
So precious in my eyes.
God chose to take his hand one-day
and led him to the skies.

But please do not forget my child,
he was a person too.
And forever he will live inside
of me and you.

So, please don't ever tell me
that time will heal my pain.
Because not even time,
can bring him back again!

Just tell me he is happy
in that land up way above.
He's snuggled in an angel's wings,
all wrapped up in our love.

Our love for you is not written on paper, for paper can be erased.
Nor is our love for you etched in stone, for stone can be broken.
But our love for you is inscribed in our hearts, where it shall remain forever.

- Author Unknown -

We think about you always,
we talk about you still,
you have never been forgotten,
and you never will.
We hold you close within our hearts,
and there you will remain,
to walk with us throughout our lives
until we meet again.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

' The Rose '

by

Bette Midler

Some say love, it is a river
that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger,
an endless aching need.
I say love, it is a flower,
and you it's only seed.

It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance.
It's the dream afraid of waking
that never takes the chance.
It's the one who won't be taken,
who cannot seem to give,
and the soul afraid of dyin'
that never learns to live.

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been too long,
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong,
just remember in the winter
far beneath the winter snows
lies the seed that with the sun's love
in the spring becomes the rose.

' Can't Cry Hard Enough '

By

Williams Brothers

I'm Gonna live my life
Like every day's the last
Without a simple good-bye
It all goes by so fast.

And now that you're gone
I can't cry hard enough
No I can't cry hard enough
For you to hear me now.

Gonna open my eyes
And see for the first time
I let go of you like
A child letting go of his kite,
There it goes up in the sky
There it goes beyond the clouds
For no reason why

I can't cry hard enough No,
I can't cry hard enough
For you to hear me now.

There it goes up in the sky
There it goes beyond the clouds
For no reason why

I can't cry hard enough No,
I can't cry hard enough
For you to hear me now
"Almighty and everlasting God, the comfort of the grieving, the strength of sufferers, let the prayers of those that cry out of any tribulation come to you, that all may rejoice to find that your mercy is present with them in their afflictions. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen"

' Comfort In The Arms Of Strangers '

By

Victoria Dixon

22/01/04

We feel at a loss; we are often let down
When some friends that surround us
Don't understand why we frown

They try to console us; they try to advise
Though the loss we have suffered
They just don't realise

We need you to listen, to just understand
Don't ask how we are
Just say sorry and take hold of a hand

We need your patience; we just need some time
We lost our baby
For no reason or rhyme

We need to reach out, to find some release
You have walked in our footsteps
You can relate to our grief

It can be overwhelming; I have been moved to tears
The kindness of strangers
Will comfort my fears

Through similar loss, you know you can depend
And find comfort in the arms of strangers
And the precious gift of a friend

" A Life so Brief, A child so small.
You had the power to touch us all "
Don't think of them
as gone away.

Don't think of them as gone away,
Their journey has just begun.
Life holds so many facets,
This earth is only one.

Just think of them as resting,
From the sorrows and the tears.
In a place of warmth and comfort,
Where there are no days or years.

Think of how they must be wishing,
That we could know today,
How nothing but our sadness
Can really pass away.

And think of them as living,
In the hearts of those they touched.
For nothing loved is ever lost,
And they were loved so much!

If only you could see

By

Lisa Robertson

I know you are feeling sad today because I had to go,.
I know you have so many things that remind you of me so.
And though you cry as you recall the times you spent with me,
I know your pain will turn to joy if you could only see.
I'm in heaven with Jesus now, we laugh, we sing , we play.
He holds me gently in his arms, I know no pain today.
And though we are apart a little while, Jesus has promised me.
He'll someday bring you up here where we 'll live for eternity.
Thank you for the gift of you!
You gave us hope by just being you.
After all the hurting and healing is through
We'll treasure most of all the gift of you!

Birth Announcement of Grief

Weight-as heavy as my heart
inches-as big as my heart

Grief came as you were leaving, taking the place you had been.
Grief stole the hearts of many.
The labor was intense (grief labor that is) and hard.
At times it seemed almost too much to bear.
I asked for help with the intense pain and
God gave me his kind of epidural.
He gave me his hand to squeeze when the pain was too much.
He gave me rest when I was too tired to go on.
He gave me strength to continue to push.
Finally, He gave me peace that surpasses all understanding.

By Rachal McIntyre

Dedicated to my two precious angels
Fluff up the clouds

Call heaven there's an Angel
That's coming home today.
Our hearts are sad and broken
Because he couldn't stay.

Fluff up the clouds and lay him
Gently in your care.
Place the tiny halo
Softly in his hair.

Our arms will never hold him again
Our lips will never kiss
The velvet of his cheeks again
We were not prepared for this.

In our hearts will be a tiny hole
Where always you will be.
Because we loved you so much
Our hearts will always grieve.

Can you be parents
if your baby is not with you?

We thought of you and closed our eyes, and prayed to God today.
We asked "what makes us parents", and we know we heard him say:
"A mother has a baby", this we know is true.
But, God, "can you be parents, when your baby's' not with you?"

"Yes, you can" he replied, with a confidence in his voice.
"I give many families babies, when they leave is not their choice.
Some I send for a lifetime, and others for just a day.
And some I send to feel your womb, but there's no need to stay."

"We just don't understand this God, we want our baby here."
He took a breath, and cleared his throat, and then we saw a tear.
"I wish that I could show you, what your child is doing today,
If you could see your child's smile, with other children who say:

We go to earth and learn our lessons, of love and life and fear.
My parents loved me oh so much, I got to come straight here.
I feel so lucky to have a Mummy and Daddy, who had so much love for me.
I learned my lessons quickly, my parents set me free.

I miss my Mummy and Daddy oh so much, but I visit them each day.
When they go to sleep, on their pillows where I lay.
I stroke their hair and kiss their cheeks, and whisper in their ears.
Mummy and Daddy don't be sad today, I'm your baby and I am here".

"So you see my dear sweet one, your children are okay.
Your babies are here in my home, they'll be at heavens gate for you.
So now you see what makes you parents'. It's the feeling right in your heart.
It's the love you had so much of,Right from the very start.

Though some on earth may not realise you are a Mummy and Daddy,
until their time is done.

They'll be up here with me one day, And you'll know that you are the best ones!"

Husbands Must Grieve Too
(The death of a baby)

When death visits a family, everyone tells the husband to be strong,
he must find the strength to carry, himself and his wife along.
Some people tend to forget that the husband is grieving too.
He also needs someone to carry him through.

The death is so much harder to take when it is a wee one,
it is like an arrow in your heart and you brain has come undone.
You feel that you need to put on a brave face to support your wife,
but how can do this, when death has taken your sons life.

If you feel like crying, please do not feel any shame,
any man who has lost a family member would do the same.
The baby was part of your life for a while and then he was taken,
and this has left the both of you very shaken.

Do not bottle up your feelings because this will cause you more pain.
You must let it out or it will drive you insane.
Grieving is a process and it has to run its' course,
even if you are screaming and crying yourself hoarse.

Be there for each other both wife and man,
and talk over your feelings the best way you can.
Cry in each others arms until the pain starts to ease,
and remember you baby boy at times like these.

Lost and Alone
(Help)

Lost and alone,
is there any point in going on.
Life was far to cruel, it has cut us too deep,
we even dream about you in our sleep.

A baby so small, he had not seen the light,
Me and your Mummy still cry silently in the night.
We wish we had just been able to see your wee face,
in your wee cot all decked out with bonny blue lace.

Snatched away before you drew your first breath,
now you lie buried in the deep dark comforting earth.
We are lost and alone so much so we cannot say,
our minds are full of questions but no answers come our way.

We need to grieve so much but we cannot let you go,
hours are like days and days pass so slow.
No minutes of peace, now you are not here,
no minutes of peace for me and my wife so dear.

Help us to cry if crying will help us,
Help us to see if seeing will help us,
Help us to understand if understanding will help us,
Help us to cope if coping will help us.

Joy Turns to Sadness
(at last reunited)

Joy turned to sadness the day we said our last good-bye,
but you will be with us in our hearts until the day we die.
Run to us, with you arms open so far and wide,
and jump on Daddys' shoulders and he will give you a shoulder ride.

So many things we wanted to do with you,
take a trip into the city and maybe even visit the zoo.
Teaching you to all the things that you would need know,
where it is not safe and where it is safe to go.

But you were called away so early, you never had a chance,
to laugh at Mum and Dad, as they tried to show you how to dance.
All these things and more are safely tucked away,
and when we are in heaven, we will teach you anyway.

Until then my son, we will continue to grieve,
and wondering to ourselves, why did you have to leave.
Look down on us my son, as we shed our saddest tears,
because where you are now, there are no tears or fears.

Rest peacefully in his arms, our bonny baby boy,
and maybe in Heaven we will catch up on all our joy.

It will be a time of rejoicing and of crying many tears of joy,
when we are at last reunited with our bonny baby boy.

" BLESSED "

Elton John

Hey you, you're a child in my head
you haven't walked yet
Your first words have yet to be said
But I swear,
You'll be blessed
I know, you're still just a dream
Your eyes might be green
Or the bluest that I've ever seen
Anyway,
You'll be blessed
And you, you'll be blessed
You'll have the best
I promise you that
I'll pick a star from the sky
Pull your name from a hat
I promise you that
I promise you that
You'll be blessed
I need you, before I'm too old
To have and to hold
To walk with you and watch you grow
And know,
That you're blessed
And you, you'll be blessed
You'll have the best
I promise you that
I'll pick a star from the sky
Pull your name from a hat
I promise you that
Promise you that You...
You'll be blessed
You'll have the best
I promise you that
I'll pick a star from the sky
Pull your name from a hat
I promise you that
I promise you that
You'll be blessed.
Grief and pain are the price we humans pay for the love and total commitment we have for another person. The more we love, the greater the pain. But, would we have it any other way?

Memories are a gift from God, to those left behind. They bring comfort, joy, and laughter. They enable one to live on forever in the hearts of those they loved.

Back Again

Time has taken me from you,
although not very far.
I'll be watching through the sunshine
and through the brightest star.

I'll be watching all of you,
from the Heavens up above.
So take good care of each other
and carry all my love.

If you're ever wondering
if I'm there here's where you can start.
Take a look inside yourself
deep within your heart.

I'll always be your baby, your grandchild,
your best friend.
So anytime you need me,
close your eyes I'm back again.

I'm Free

Don't grieve for me,
for now I'm free.
I'm following the path
God has laid, You see.

I took His hand
when I heard His call.
I turned my back
and left it all.

I could not stay
another day.
To laugh, to love,
to walk or play.

Perhaps my time
seemed all too brief,
Don't lengthen it now
with undue grief.

Lift up your hearts
and peace to thee.
GOD wanted me now;
HE set me free.

If Tomorrow Never Comes

If I knew it would be the last time
that I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss and
call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I would spare an extra minute or two
to stop and say "I love you,"
Instead of assuming you would know I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything right.

There will always be another day
to say our "I love you's,"
and certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do's?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget,

tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike.
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day

that you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss,
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
whisper in their ear,
tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear.

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"please forgive me," "thank you," or "it's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

" There You'll Be "

When I think back on these times
and the dreams we left behind
I'll be glad cause I was blessed
to get to have you in my life

When I look back on these days,
I'll look and see your face
You were right there for me
In my dreams I'll always see
you soar above the sky

In my heart there'll always be
a place for you for all my life
I'll keep a part of you with me
And everywhere I am there you'll be.....

Faith Hill

I drove into the cemetery
With tears in my eyes today
I placed a flower upon your grave
And bowed my head to pray

Looking at the simple marker
Nothing fancy, or overdone
I couldn't help but cry as I read
The birth and death of my one and only son

I told you how much I missed you
Your face I could clearly see
You have died, but are not lost
You will always be a part of me

There's emptiness at home now
An empty house, an empty chair
Our family is broken forever
A son's love is no longer there

So I'll say good bye for a little while
Sleep in peace and always know
I didn't want to give you back to God
He took your hand, and I had to let go

Some people dream of angels,
I held one in my arms.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Matthew 5:4
Grief is like being lost in the hot desert and always seeing a glass of water in the distance, You want that glass of water more than anything, You have been walking so long and you are so weak and tired but the glass just does not seem to be getting any closer, at times if seems as through it is further away.

Grief is like a ball of string.
You start with an end and wind.
Then the ball slips through your fingers
and rolls across the floor.
Some of your work is undone, but not all.
You pick it up and start over again,
but you never have to begin again at the end of the string.
The ball never completely unwinds.
You`ve made some progress.

" In your heart keep one still,

Louise Driscoll
Death is not an Option
(Nor is it a choice)

Death is not an option, it comes to us all,
whether you are seven foot or you are very small.
If you had the chance would you even choose at all
death is not polite, he does not knock on the wall.

The hardest death to take is when it is a babe,
if it had to be a decision, it would be the hardest made.
I for one could not, I would not make the grade,
but who would want to, when all is done and said.

It is always left to fate, to do the choosing in our place,
I would not want his job, nor I would enter the race.
If it was up to me, I would die in your stead,
so that you can lie cosy and warm, in your bed.

I am afraid that is not a choice and it certainly is not an option,
and no amount of money can buy you protection.
Once he has your number and he has left his calling card,
he takes your hand gently so that your passing is not so hard.

He passes so quietly, his heart going out to all who grieve,
it takes him all his time, to take the dead and leave.
Have your time of grieving, it is different for us all,
when the pain is too much to bear, ask Him not to let you fall.

Grief

Grief is like a jagged rock
that you bury deep in your pocket,
It's sharp edges forcing you to take it out and
examine it from time to time.
Even when you do not want to.
And when it is too heavy to carry,
you must ask a friend to hold it so you can rest.

As time passes it is a little easier
to take the rock out of your pocket.
It doesn't seem to weigh as much.
Now you show it to a circle of friends
and, occasionally, even a stranger.
One day you pull out the rock and surprisingly,
it doesn't really hurt as much.
For the edges are no longer jagged
but smoothed out by time, touch and tears.

Suffer The Little Children
(WHY)

Suffer the little children and come unto me,
this is what the Bible says, so it must be.
But why do they have to suffer, for they have done no wrong,
let them stay with their parents where they all belong.

Some are taken quietly in the middle of the night,
some of them from the many injuries that they received in a fight.
Some do not even, get a chance at all to be born,
late in its' mother pregnancy, from her womb is torn.

Leaving grieving parents wondering why and how,
why you left it so late and why now.
Now a void has appeared in their loving life,
who consoles the husband as he consoles his wife.

So suffer not the little children because they see enough pain,
let them be happy and not to feel disdain.
Let no bad come of them, while they are in your care,
because you will have to answer for all when you too get there.

Therefore be happy little children in all your childhood things,
and listen to your parents and to the songs your mother sings.
Parents this is for you listen to your child and watch over them too.
And maybe in the end, they will do the same thing for you.

In This Heart

By

Sinead O' Connor

In this heart lies for you
A lark born only for you
Who sings only to you
My love
My love
My love

I am waiting for you
For only to adore you
My heart is for you
My love
My love
My love

This is my grief for you
For only the loss of you
The hurting of you
My love
My love
My love

There are rays on the weather
Soon these tears will have cried
All loneliness have died
My love
My love
My love

I will have you with me
In my arms only
For you are only
My love
My love
My love

TO WHERE YOU ARE

Who can say for certain
Maybe you're still here,
I feel you all around me
Your memories so clear.

Deep in the stillness
I can hear you speak,
You're still an inspiration
Can it be...

That you are mine Forever love
And you are watching over me from up above...
Fly me up to where you are

Beyond the distant star,
I wish upon tonight
To see you smile
If only for awhile
to know you're there...

A breath away's not far
To where you are.
Are you gently sleeping
Here inside my dream?
And isn't faith believing
All power can't be seen?

As my heart holds you,
Just one beat away
I cherish all you gave me everyday...

Cause you are mine Forever love
Watching me from up above...
And I believe That angels breathe
And that love will live on and never leave.

Fly me up To where you are
Beyond the distant star.
I wish upon tonight To see you smile
If only for awhile...

To know you're there
A breath away's not far
To where you are.
I know you're there...
A breath away's not far,
To where you are.

God's Boxes

I have in my hands two boxes, Which God gave me to hold.
He said, "Put all your sorrows in the black box,
And all your joys in the gold."

I heeded His words, and in the two boxes,
Both my joys and sorrows I stored,
But though the gold became heavier each day,
The black was as light as before.

With curiosity, I opened the black, I wanted to find out why,
And I saw, in the base of the box, a hole,
Which my sorrows had fallen out by.

I showed the hole to God, and mused,
"I wonder where my sorrows could be!"
He smiled a gentle smile and said,
"My child, they're all here with me."

I asked God, why He gave me the boxes,
Why the gold and the black with the hole?
"My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings,
The black is for you to let go."
Please light a candle for an angel today,
For our precious babies who have drifted away.

They were taken from us, even though they were born
We laboured, we cried, their memory lives on
